Woman makes it public with a man during the birthday dinner he had planned

A 28-year-old man turns to Reddit for advice after his girlfriend had publicly ended their relationship during her birthday dinner, which he had carefully planned.

The man describes the shocking turn of events that made him feel humiliated and confused. He spent weeks organizing a special birthday party for his girlfriend, Sarah, in a luxury restaurant.

He had invited 12 of their friends, made reservations and even arranged that a surprise cake was brought forward at the end of the meal.

The evening seemed to go well until Sarah got up to make what she called an ‘important announcement’. She stated: “I just want to thank everyone for coming tonight … and a special thanks to my great boyfriend, who has been so great.”

She continued: “So great, even that I am happy to say that I finally see him as a real best friend … and nothing more.”

The table fell silent when Sarah continued her speech and explained that she had been considering their relationship for a while and had come to the realization that while she loved him, it was not in a romantic way. The man was unbelieving about the events that unfolded before his eyes.

“I felt like an idiot,” he shares. “I was just stunned there, while some of her friends tried to change the subject awkwardly.”

Unable to wear humiliation, the poster finally decided to leave the restaurant without causing a scene. He just grabbed his coat and walked outside and left Sarah and their friends.

In the aftermath of the incident, Sarah began to bomb him with SMS messages, accused him of being ‘dramatic’ and embarrassing her on her birthday. She argued that they should have been able to deal with the situation more adults, insisting that he should have stayed during dinner.

“She said she thought we were mature enough to deal with this as adults,” the man writes. “But I just couldn’t sit there and pretend that everything was fine after that public humiliation.” Now the poster wonders if he should have stayed as Sarah suggested, or if he was right to walk away.

Many redditors have chosen the side of the poster and say that he has done the right one. It is written: ‘She was ashamed. It was already quiet and uncomfortable as soon as she announced that you are her ‘best friend’. If she is really mature enough to tackle it as adults, she would have had a private conversation with you instead. ”

Another shares: ‘She blinded you with a public announcement about your relationship and you had the right to leave. Her reaction shifts the fault, but you have not caused a scene. You just walked away after you were humiliated. ‘
