by Alabama teacher Ashlyn Cooke says she has found a red flag that tells her that a student will be problems.
“Parents, I beg you to listen to me,” Cooke argued in a Tiktok video. “There is one thing that tells me that your child will be a behavioral problem in my class all year round.”
According to Cooke, it all comes down to the adults – especially those who immediately jump to the defense of their child and attack the teacher when problems arise.
“You hurt your child by not having them take responsibility,” Cooke, 30, explains in the clip. “If that goal to create a good person is not mutual between the teacher and the parent of the child, so many teachers can do.”
Cooke says that she understands that parents protect their children and expects disciplinary measures to be taken with questions.
“But if you start with:” Well, my child would never do that, “and you start to attack me – you are doing your child a bad service,” Cooke tells Totay.com. “You learn your child to ignore authority.”
In an ideal scenario, Cooke says that both the teacher and the parent present a united front.
“We meet with the child to break down our shared expectations,” she says. “That will have a positive long -term impact.”
Parenting and youth development expert Dr. Deborah Gilboa says she couldn’t agree anymore.
“When we attack people who suggest that (our children) may have done something wrong, we teach them that if they feel uncomfortable or unhappy, it is always someone else’s fault,” Gilboa says today. “Parents must listen to the perspective of other others. If we can’t do that, they will never learn to do it for themselves, and they lose friends and opportunities. “
