If West Virginia has a strong season in 2025, Rich Rodriguez can point to a lack of Tiktok dancing as a reason why.

The coach of the mountain climbers said on Monday that he did not forbade his players from fully using the social media app. However, they should not do certain things while filming for videos to post on the app.

“No – they will be on [social media] So I don’t forbid them, “said Rodriguez on Monday when he was asked if he had a social media policy. “I just forbid them to dance on it. Look, we try to have a hard lead, whatever, and you are dancing on your top ties, it is not entirely the image of our program I want. “

“But I told the team today, I said,” Everything today is about trying to make everyone individually, it’s all about the individual. It’s all about the individual. “And I said that football is one of the last things that should be more about the team than the individual. And so I am just – I forbade dancing on Tiktok. I think that I would not look like it. Really.

“Like I said, in 20 years now when they want to sit in their pajamas in the basement and eat cheetos and watch Tiktok or what the hell they can go there. Smoking cannabis, whatever. Quick yourself. But hopefully their focus can be on winning football matches. How about let’s win the football match and don’t win the Tiktok. “

Rodriguez is right, he can set all the rules he wants for his program. But it is strange that one of the lines he draws against dancing is Tiktok.

The old coach is back for his second stint with the mountain climbers after replacing Neal Brown. Rodriguez coached from 2001 to 2007 in West Virginia – long before Tiktok was in the area – and the mountain climbers won 32 games in his last three seasons.

Since then he coached until 2017 in Michigan and Arizona before returning to the University Football with Jacksonville State in 2023. His teams won 18 games for two seasons and he was brought back to replace Brown, because the mountain climbers only won 10 games since Rodriguez left for the Wolverines at the end of the 2007 season.
