The film by Lorcan Finnegan plays Cage as a man who returns to the idyllic beach of his youth to surf with his son, but is humiliated by a group of powerful locals. The character of Cage is drawn in a conflict that, as the synopsis for the film, “rises with the punishing heat of summer and pushes him straight to his breaking point.”

At the end of last month, Fulton filed a lawsuit against Cage and their son Weston almost a year after Weston reportedly physically attacked her. On Monday, Fulton rejected her claims against Cage, but the claims against Weston remain in the court case.

A lawyer for Fulton has submitted the request for dismissal, according to legal documents obtained by people. The claims were rejected with prejudices, so Fulton can no longer pursue the claim against Cage.

In earlier judicial documents obtained by people on Wednesday, February 19, Fulton, 57, claimed that Cage ignored the concern about mental health care for their son Weston, 34, and instead made the alleged behavior of Weston possible for the incident.

Weston and Fulton were reportedly involved in a verbal dispute that became physically on April 28, 2024. At that time Fulton reported reports that she and her son argued; Instead, he said he had experienced a “mental health crisis” and she tried to help him.

Weston was arrested for accusation of mistreatment with a fatal weapon in July 2024 and released by Bond. After his arrest, Fulton said that she was “brutally attacked”, which stated that “it is necessary” that Weston “gets the help he desperately needs.”

In the court case, Fulton called the actor because he reportedly would not intervene and help their son.

“Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent abuse and battery and harming countless individuals,” says the lawsuit, tightened in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County. “Nicolas was aware of the history of Weston and nevertheless did not take any action to prevent Weston from committing violence and causing others damage.”

In a statement obtained by people, a lawyer said for Cage: “The allegations of Christina Fulton to Nicolas Cage are absurd and frivolous.”

“Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man. Mr. Cage in no way checks Weston’s behavior and is not responsible for Weston’s alleged attack on his mother,” Cage’s lawyer added.

In a statement to people, Weston’s lawyer Michael A. Goldstein wrote: “Weston’s father, Nicolas Cage, had absolutely nothing to do with Weston’s emotional condition or state prior to the incident with his mother, Christina Fulton. The incident with his mother was caused by her – not his father. In Christina’s insistence and direction, he agreed to see a new doctor selected by her, who immediately changed his medication and treatment. Unfortunately, that resulted in the emotional/medical breakdown that resulted in the incident with his mother. Christina’s efforts to blame his father for that incident are absolutely wrong and nothing more than an attempt to generate media attention and force him to pay her money. ”

In Fulton’s first application, she sued Kooi to claims of negligent supervision and negligent enterprise, and Weston on claims of mistreatment, battery, intentional encounter of emotional need and negligent encounter of emotional need. She also complained Cage and Weston for a claim of negligence. At the moment, the compensation that Fulton applies is unknown, although she has asked for costs related to its submission.
