New study finds unexpected factor stimulation of the increase in diseases transferred by food: ‘an important role’

Heating of global temperatures make it easier for Salmonella to spread, according to new research.

What happens?

The study led by the University of Surrey showed that changing weather conditions such as warmer temperatures and higher humidity stimulated the outbreaks of Salmonella. The Wekanaal summarized the newspaper, which used data from the British health security agency for 16 years and compared to more than a dozen weather factors.

“The study emphasizes how the weather plays an important role in the outbreaks of Salmonella and offers a valuable tool for predicting future risks and coordinating interventions, in particular in the context of climate change,” main author Laura Gonzalez Villeta told the news output.

Why is this study important?

Salmonella is a disease transmitted by food that can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, tribes can sometimes lead to infection in urine, blood, bones, joints or the nervous system, resulting in severe disease.

But Salmonella is not the only health threat due to an overheating planet. For example, the research team has previously linked the changing worldwide weather patterns to dangerous diarrhea disease.

In addition, extreme again such as drought, heat waves and floods all over the world create favorable conditions for mosquitoes to thrive and viruses such as Zika and malaria can be spread to higher latitudes and heights, according to the World Mosquito program.

In fact, the organization 2024 mentioned the worst year on record for Global Dengue cases, and 50 locally acquired cases of the disease occurred in Florida after Hurricanes Milton and Helene, thanks to the standing water that changed parts of the state to a mosquito breeding paradones.

Although the weather has always existed, the weather channel explains that an overheated planet leads to more extreme weather.

What is done about extreme weather?

We cannot stop natural disasters, but we can try to reduce their impact on communities by limiting the overheating of our planet. The best way to do this is to reduce our dependence on dirty energy.

Tokyo, for which most new buildings need solar panels, are a number of cities that help to tackle the problem. Similarly, New York law will require that all Lyfts and Ubers are EVs by 2030.
